Why Am I Always Cold? - Stop Feeling Cold For Good!

There are many reasons for why you might say "why am I always cold" the main factors however I'll describe below as you may not have considered them and it's very likely your doctors haven't either since the medical system within north America has become a joke to the rest of the world. Here now are some reasons for why you always feel cold.

3 Causes of why you always feel cold

Hypo-Thyroid - A sluggish thyroid can exist and yet blood tests and doctors tests will not indicate it until it goes into the extremes, if you have serious trouble keeping weight off and frequently feel cold I would highly suggest you research Iodoral or Lugols Iodine. That's all I'll say about that. Don't rely on your doctor to heal your body, just suppress symptoms.

Parasites - So this might sound like news to you but a majority of the worlds population are infected with parasites to various degrees. Animals aren't the only ones who need to get de-wormed 2 times per year. If you haven't done a thorough parasite cleanse and you're still exhibiting symptoms such as cold hands and feet then maybe it's time to start.

Candida - Of course the big one that connects the other two together. A suppressed immune system can allow for parasites to gain a foothold in your body and Candida will overgrow in addition. This yeast in approximately 90% of the population is responsible for an extensive list of symptoms including cold hands and feet. It is also a culprit often in creating a thyroid dysfunction in the body. The solution is a thorough Candida cleanse. I suggest you take a Candida test or questionnaire to determine whether or not you appear to be suffering from Candida.

Always Have Cold Hands? What Causes Cold Feet and Hands and How to Fix It

Do you frequently find that you always have cold hands or feet? If so there could be various reasons for this that your doctor has either not notified you of or is simply not aware of. Always having cold feet and/or hands is an indicator symptom of a greater issue at hand that is impacting your overall body temperature. This could be from poor circulation, anemia or another cause as I'll discuss.

3 Common Causes when you Always Have Cold Hands

Parasites: Much more common than you would expect, parasites are not limited to 3rd world countries only. They frequently affect people in 1st world nations such as the USA. They feed on the nutrition that should enter into your cells, causing a mal-absorption syndrome which very commonly mimics anemia and conditions where the body feels cold and as though it's malnourished. Most tests for parasites are in-effective and doctors when asked about them will for the most part only laugh, but it's no coincidence that so many people when they do a thorough parasite cleanse feel 10 times better and symptoms such as chronic cold hands just disappears.

Hypo-Thyroidism: This is another situation where the perception in the modern medical community is that you need to score very low on thyroid tests to indicate an under functioning thyroid. The reality is that you can score below average on their tests and they would tell you you're fine when in reality this is the cause of your symptoms such as fatigue and cold hands and feet. I would highly suggest if you always have cold hands and feet that you research a product called Iodoral and start using it.

Candida: At the root of many health conditions is a fungus that grows in over 90% of the population, the reality is that this yeast will only cause health problems once the immune system is weakened or the good bacteria in the body is negatively affected, allowing the yeast to overgrow in the body. Symptoms experienced are vast and can include cold hands and feet, sinus congestion, asthma, arthritic symptoms, chronic fatigue, rashes with no explanation, suppressed immune system which leads to frequent colds and depression/anxiety disorders. This only scratches the surface and if any of these symptoms jump out at you I'd suggest you take a Candida test to determine just how badly Candida appears to be affecting your health.

Breast Cancer in Women With Type 2 Diabetes - Iodine and Breast Health!

As you know, breast cancer is considered to be epidemic among women over fifty whether or not they have Type 2 diabetes. It's still not clear whether hormone replacement therapy (HRT) increases your risk of breast cancer but there is actually more consensus in the medical research community over this issue than many others. That could be because the incidence of breast cancer in Western countries dramatically rises anyway after menopause... whether you are on HRT or not.

Scientists have found a clear connection between Type 2 diabetes and estrogen-stimulated breast cancer in women. Fortunately, one of the easiest ways to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer is simply to consume adequate amounts of iodine.

Iodine keeps the immune system healthy. It stimulates the growth of protective cells in the mucosa of the mouth, stomach, vagina, and nipples. It also keeps the breast healthy. The cells lining the milk ducts of the breast, where most breast cancers originate, actually have an 'iodine pump' in them, allowing them to take in this nutrient as it is available and when it is needed.

The importance of iodine in breast health is not just strengthening the immune system. It's also important for keeping the linings of the ducts of the breasts from responding to estrogen. Estrogen stimulates the growth of breast tissue, both healthy and cancerous. When the effects of estrogen are blocked, the body's self-defense systems have more opportunities to stop cancer even before it is diagnosed.

Physiologist James Wilson estimated that about 30 per cent of women have at least microscopic breast cell carcinomas at any given time, and that over 99 per cent of women will never know they have the disease... because various immune defense and DNA repair mechanisms stop the cancer before it spreads.

How can women be sure they are getting enough iodides for breast health? There are two basic ways. One is take a supplement called Iodoral. A 12.5 mg tablet every other day is enough.

The other way to be sure of getting enough of this vital element for breast health is to eat kelp, dulse, and other sea vegetables. A single serving four or five days a week provides the body with all the iodides it needs.

Often women with Type 2 diabetes take other medications including thyroid replacement hormones (Synthroid or Armour Thyroid), or if you have high blood pressure or you take medication for arrhythmia, see your physician before adding iodine to your diet. But know that iodine is often the missing element in successful nutritional programs for maintaining breast health.

Iodine Supplements Vs Iodized Salt

Is the use of iodized salt enough to provide our bodies with the iodide it needs for optimal health or must we use an iodine supplement?

Let's look at a little history and some basic chemistry.

Morton added iodide to their salt in 1924 to prevent an epidemic of enlarged thyroid glands (goiter) due to an iodide deficiency. Even though the result of including iodide in salt was successful science has yet to establish what amount of iodide human beings require for optimal health. Our MDR (minimum daily requirement) of 150 mcg is enough to prevent goiter and cretinism but not nearly enough to maximize thyroid hormone production or to protect us from other disease conditions related to iodine and iodide deficiencies.

Many studies (WHO & National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) have shown that the general population of both the U.S. and worldwide are suffering from an insufficiency of these two essential trace elements. So the first question is can we rely on iodized salt to provide us with our daily needs for maximum health?

Iodized Salt

A teaspoon of iodized salt contains the following:

  • 2,300 mg of sodium (Our U.S. Department of Health and Human Sciences recommends that a healthy adult should not consume more than 2,300 mg of sodium. If they have high blood pressure, kidney disease, diabetes, are black, or if they are middle-aged or older they should not consume more than 1,500 mg. The 'Surgeon General's Report on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention' of 1979 even condemned salt.

  • 2,700 mg of chloride

  • 300 mcg of iodide (0.3 mg)

From this information and taking into consideration our intake of salt added to prepared and restaurant foods iodized salt may not be the best and healthiest source of iodide.

Iodine & Iodide

The next logical question then is how much of these two trace elements do we require for health, not just to sustain life, but for vital health.

There's a general consensus about vitamin and mineral requirements yet with iodine and iodide there's a huge gap between physicians when considering a safe and effective dose. And both sides have very convincing research to support their point of view.

The conservatives believe that all the nutrients we need can be found in our food. This theory may have been true 60 years ago but our consumption of foods grown in nutrient depleted soils and manufactured foods has greatly reduced the essential nutrients we require. The conservative view also does not take into account people's reluctance to use table salt.

Then there is the other extreme, physicians prescribing upwards of 50 mg of iodine and iodide per day. That's 50,000 mcg compared with 150 mcg, 300 times the MDR. There may be some initial benefits to flooding the body with this much iodine and iodide but taken long-term there will be consequences.

Words of Caution

I used to be one of those high-dose prescribers until I repeated lab tests focusing on thyroid hormones. I was horrified by the results. I immediately stopped prescribing iodine and iodide and dove into the research myself.

The endocrine system's reaction to high doses is a little too deep for this article but the primary result of high dosing is inflammation of the thyroid and over years the increased risk of a condition called Hashimoto's.

One patient, before starting her on high-dose iodine and iodide, tested negative for Hashimoto's but within 6 months her Hashimoto's test turned positive.

Research

I was surprised to find so much research on these two trace elements coming up with over 100 articles on their use in the prevention and treatment of numerous diseases.

Some of the research indicated a safe and effective dose while many articles agreed that people around the world, and not in just the less developed countries, are not getting anywhere near what they require.

Several articles pointed to between 3 and 6 mg a day as being safe. I tend to stand on the conservative side, recommending 3mg of iodine and iodide per day. This moderate dose slowly saturates the tissues and because it's not the 'flood-the-system' high-dose approach the body will easily excrete what it does not need.

Which Iodine Supplement?

In products from the sea nature provides the combination of both iodine and iodide. With supplements you'll find the ingredient is often only iodine. It will also be the elemental form and not made from food.

This means that most iodine supplements do not include iodide which is absolutely necessary for our thyroid to make its hormones. So to me supplements with iodine alone are out.

Iodine and Iodide Supplements

The most popular combination supplements (Iodoral & IodinePlus-2) fall into the category of the high-dose, usually 12.5 mg (12,500 mcg), and I recommend avoiding them even if your physician is doing lab tests. You can't predict when you'll reach that saturation threshold and start having thyroid inflammation.

Kelp Tablets

Kelp contains both iodine and iodide. There have been a number of survey studies showing how the cultures consuming higher amounts of seafood and sea vegetation have a much lower incidence of various illnesses including cancer. Yet these studies are from the 60's and 70's.

In the last 40 to 50 years our oceans have become our industrial waste sewage system with kelp, chlorella, plankton and reef life our only means of preserving the purity of our waters.

I recently approached a very large and well-known herbal supplement manufacturing company (Gaia Herbs) to have them formulate a kelp concentrate to deliver 3 mg of iodine and iodide. After a week of their research they informed me that they would be unable to make this product because the concentration of arsenic in the 3 mg dose would exceed California's limit of acceptable levels.

Besides, these articles of the 60's and 70's studied the 'nutritional' intake of various cultures and even though they cite iodine and iodide being the primary variable for improving health we need to take into consideration all the nutrients in their diet, selenium being second in line.

My Recommendation

Obviously, some attention needs focus on iodine and iodide supplementation to secure the health of you and your loved ones. Here are a few suggestions.

  1. Use sea salt for cooking and for flavor. It contains many trace minerals which we no longer find in our produce. Sea salt does not contain nearly enough iodide. In fact the concentration of iodide in iodized salt is about 45 times that of sea salt.

  2. Use the combination of iodine and iodide at 3 mg a day for an adult, about half this for a child. The ratio is about 1.25 mg of iodine and 1.75 mg of potassium iodide.

  3. Always, always take selenium when taking any iodine product. I suggest between 200 and 400 mcg in the methionine form. Selenium plays hundreds of important roles in health and especially with thyroid hormones.

You'll find more information on the safe uses of iodine and iodide on my blog while I continue to contribute to the ezine platform.

All the best,

Dr. Alexander Haskell, N.D.

Type 2 Diabetes and Breast and Thyroid Health in Women - Increase Your Intake of Iodine!

Over the past 40 years, millions of North American women have experienced a nutritional condition once completely wiped out... iodine deficiency. Women who have Type 2 diabetes in particular, but many women in general, suffer painful fibrocystic changes in the breasts that simple iodine supplementation usually takes away.

The reason iodine consumption in the USA and Canada has fallen precipitously since the middle of the twentieth century is bakeries that once used iodine compounds to bleach flour now use bromine compounds. This greatly reduces the amount of iodine in the diet, and, even worse, it adds an anti-iodine compound to everyday eating. Bromine attaches to receptor sites in the thyroid that otherwise would be receiving the iodides it needs to make thyroid hormone.

When thyroid hormone levels are reduced, all the problems associated with Type 2 diabetes get that much worse. There can be inexplicable weight gain, inexplicable high blood sugar levels, and a general feeling of being tired all the time. And in women, there can also be inexplicable breast pain followed by fibrocystic changes in the breast.

When breast pain is caused by deficiency in the iodides provided by food, there is a distinctive rhythm with the menstrual cycle, (in women who have not experienced age-related or surgical menopause). This deficiency causes estrogen to latch on to more receptors in the breast, causing fibrous tissues to grow during the first half of the period, before ovulation. In women who have experienced menopause, the pain may occur all the time.

Two studies have found a keen role of this overlooked nutrient in women's breast health. One study found that women who take it overcome fibrocystic breast pain in 70% of cases. Another study found that the dosage needed for this is just 6 mg a day. That's a great deal more than is needed to prevent goiter, but it's still not a lot of iodine. That's just a 12.5 mg Iodoral tablet every other day, or a single serving of kelp or other sea vegetables every day. It's very easy to use iodine to control breast pain.

And it is very important for women who have Type 2 diabetes to take their Iodoral or to eat their sea veggies. Especially as they cut out white flour and carbohydrates, and as they make their diets more adventurous by using exotic salts, women just don't get the iodides they need. There's just one caveat.

Once in a great while women experience a condition known as iodism. This is really a reaction to the release of bromides that had been occupying receptor sites in thyroid tissue. All you need to do is to reduce your dosage of iodine.

And women who are on thyroid replacement hormone may need less Synthroid or Armour Thyroid, or both. Women who don't know that extra iodides are causing symptoms such as heart palpitations can become quite alarmed... if you take thyroid replacement hormones, speak with your doctor before taking the supplement.

Thyroid Function is Directly Related to Iodine Consumption

Thyroid problems have become rampant in the modern world, thanks to greedy manufacturers. Between dumping poisonous sodium fluoride waste (from aluminum can and weapons manufacturing) into our toothpaste, soda drinks and public water supplies, and chlorine (another poison) into our water, cleaning products and medicines, the thyroid has very little chance of functioning properly.

Fluorine, Chlorine, and Bromine (which is also added to sodas and medicines), iodine and astatine are 'halogenated compounds' all of which can take the place of iodine. These extremely reactive oxidizing agents don't exist by themselves very long-they must combine with other substances to be stable. Because they are highly reactive, they tend to bond very strongly with other molecules (Teflon is fluorine bonded with carbon, table salt is chlorine bonded with sodium, bleach is chlorine bonded with sodium, and PCB's are polychlorinated biphenyls).

Here's the problem: the thyroid, a gland found in the neck area, needs iodine to function properly. All those other halogenated elements can bind to the same areas that iodine can. So what do you think happens when a person drinks a lot of sodas every day...uses a lot a table salt...or spends a lot of time in or around swimming pools? Right-they get their thyroid iodine receptors filled up with bromine, chlorine, and fluorine. That means thyroid hormone is not produced properly.

Since thyroid hormones are necessary for so many metabolic functions other than just producing heat in the body-such as: protein, carbohydrate, and fat metabolism, protein synthesis, catecholamine sensitivity, and some kind of neuronal activity (thought to be involved in hibernation cycles)--the lack of thyroid function is a serious matter. T3 (Triiodothyronine), the active form of thyroid hormone in the blood, has iodine in it. That would be a very different compound if it was trichlorthyronine (which has been found to cause angina and depression of serum protein-bound iodine) or tribromothyronine (which, while effective, is about 10% less effective than triiodothyronine).

The difference between amounts of iodine consumed in the USA vs. Japan is astounding: 240micrograms vs. 12 milligrams daily. Health experts are discovering links between the high incidence of breast cancer in the USA and low incidence of breast and other cancers in Japan. Iodine supplementation was used to reduce fibrocystic breast disease and to increase apoptosis (programmed cell death, which is important to destroy cancer cells that are formed naturally in the body) as well as prevent goiter.

Some of the other disease found to respond favorably to iodine supplementation include: fibromyalgia, uterine fibroids, diabetes, migraines, and some skin conditions. It is also used to remove toxins like bromine and fluorine from the body (but high doses will cause skin eruptions as these are removed). Dr. Guy Abraham, who started The Iodine Project in 1996, conducted clinical studies on 50mg daily of Iodoral (the pill form of Lugol's Solution) and determined that iodine sufficiency had been reached when 90% of the dose was excreted in the urine. He also found that up to 1,500mg could be contained in the body without significant side effects. Dr. Abraham concluded that taking 100 times the recommended daily dose is safe and effective when combined with a good diet, selenium, magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids. (check out http://www.theiodineproject.webs.com/ for more information about The Iodine Project

It is a fairly simple thing to add iodine to one's daily food intake now, given both liquid and pill supplements (yeah, it tastes really bad). The minimal trace amounts we consume in canned foods, iodized salt and seafood is usually enough to prevent goiter but can be useless if the iodine is displaced by the other halogenated elements mentioned above. While overdose of iodine can cause heart palpitations, over-excitement and the like, it is pretty easy to determine when that is happening. Under utilization of iodine is usually more subtle and can result in a sub-clinical hypothyroidism that leaves people fatigued, depressed and sick...and can't be diagnosed with a thyroid blood test. For further information on how to check for sub-clinical hypothyroidism, check out the other articles in this series.

It is estimated that over 80% of the population of the USA is suffering from sub-clinical hypothyroidism. No wonder so many people are falling asleep behind the wheel of the car, listless at work, losing hair and gaining weight.

This is Your Endocrine System - The Thyroid

Our most well-known endocrine gland is the thyroid. Not nearly as well known is the fact that half the population has thyroid problems, mostly undiagnosed or mistreated.

The thyroid, a butterfly-shaped gland located by your Adam's apple, controls metabolism and affects everything else. You may know about the weight problems, hair loss, brain fog, depression, extreme fatigue, etc. that accompany an underperforming thyroid gland. Some of you have experienced the living on the edge sensation of an overactive thyroid.

Hyper and hypo share a lot of the same symptoms, but hypo people generally feel like a lump of mush that doesn't want to move, while hyper people feel tired, but wired.

One sure thing about thyroid problems is you never lack for a boatload of symptoms. One reference book listed slightly more than 300 symptoms for hypothyroidism alone. Is it any wonder, then, that doctors don't want to hear about them?

Doctors prefer blood tests to symptoms. Which isn't a surprise considering they have only a few minutes per visit to figure things out. So who could complain-if the tests worked. Which they don't.

The gold standard test-the TSH-came to us based on a vote of endocrinologists, not science. They keep moving the goal posts to make things come out right, but that doggone test won't cooperate. Never mind. Full speed ahead. And millions of people drag through life because doctors won't listen to their symptoms, and they 'fail' the TSH test.

One form of hypothyroidism, inherited from mothers, never passes the TSH-or any other test. Type 2 hypothyroidism, as it's called, is all about symptoms. The tests have nothing to do with anything, so those patients, maybe a majority of hypothyroid people, don't get treated.

Low thyroid function, whatever its cause, leads to heart attacks, fibromyalgia, auto-immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, adrenal failure, and on, and on. All added, of course, to the pile of symptoms you start with.

Thyroid problems require prompt and proper treatment to save the day. The TSH test guarantees that most people won't get it.

Worse, when doctors do treat hypothyroidism, they compound the problem by treating it with Synthroid or one of its ugly generic cousins. Our bodies aren't so keen on synthetics that don't look like the real thing, and synthetic thyroid, lacking four out of the five parts of natural thyroid, doesn't look anything like the real thing. And it causes allergic reactions in lots of people.

So you won't get better, but your doctor will say you're fine or prescribe an antidepressant, which won't help.

And if your thyroid is overactive? Doctors usually remove overactive thyroid glands so patients can become hypothyroid and receive the standard bogus treatment for that. Then they get to yearn for the edge they used to live on.

Did you know that Iodoral (iodine/iodide) (Lugol's Solution is the liquid version) reverses hyperthyroidism? Helps a ton with hypothyroidism, too. But doctors will warn you never to take any form of iodine lest you kill yourself. Sigh. Well, at least they're right about iodized salt; that doesn't have such a good track record.

I've been dealing with this mess pretty much all my life. Tough sledding doesn't begin to describe it.

But this information age opens the floodgates to good information. Including mine-thirty-plus years of research coming at you.

Great Price Natural Sources for $7.50

Natural Sources - Raw Thyroid, 90 capsules Review

I have NO insurance so a person like myself who is not feeling well, is on her own. I already knew all of the symptoms of having an under-active thyroid because my mother has hypothyroidism. I took an online questionnaire and my results came back that I had an 80% chance of having an under-active thyroid. I would just like to say after taking this product for only one week, I feel SO much better. Some of my symptoms were weight gain, unable to lose weight even though I have a small gym inside my home which I use very frequently, long and painful cycles, my hair was falling out, my skin was extremely dry, and I could sleep for days. I was always tired no matter how much sleep I had. I have taken this product exactly 6 days now and instantly I feel more energetic and my cycle came and went in just two days! That's amazing! I don't take any other medications and I can only attribute my feeling so much better to this product. I don't really suggest people self medicate without speaking to a doctor first, if you have one, but for me this worked out great! I will give another update in about 2 weeks.

Seeing results - nards444 -
I bought this stuff and started taking it. At first when I took it I felt funny, but after about three weeks of use I started seeing more energy. Since taking I have lost 5lbs in 5-6 weeks, more than that I think this stuff is regulating my weight better. Before if had a big weekend with lots of food I could easily see a 2-3lbs gain, now I see nothing. I think this is regulatin my metablosim better. It's not a night and day change, but I am happy with it.

Raw product - Nina Mattox - Perkins, OK
I have taken this product for three weeks now and cannot tell I am taking anything. Reading all the reviews, I was so hopeful it would help with my mid life apple figure. I do have low Thyroid and do take a perscription...still no results here, but no side effects either!

Great Natural Thyroid Booster - Lily A. -
I've bee suffering with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (an autoimmune hypothyroidism) for 25 years for which I've been taking Synthroid (which barely does anything anymore except keep my blood levels adequate). I started taking this based on reviews but not really expecting much. Imagine my surprise when I noticed more energy and improved mood, I was shocked! Nothing else I've tried has helped me but this definitely works. I've been taking it for 1 month and I'm improving steadily. I will continue to take it and pray it never stops working....like the Synthroid did. If you have any problems with a sluggish or low thyroid, you MUST do yourself a favor and at least try this.

Cold a Lot? Why You're Always Feeling Cold & How to Warm Up!

Do you find you frequently feel cold a lot? If so then there are several reasons for this, although I'll describe the 3 most common ones and some basic tips for how you can start to feel warm again. If you've suffered from cold hands, feet or just an overall feeling of the chills that never goes away then you'll need to seriously consider these points.

The 3 Most Common Causes for Chronically Feeling Cold

#1 - Low Iron: This can easily be tested for, although from what I've learned tests can be mis-leading quite often, even iron tests. Since what might be normal for one person might not be normal for another. To get deeper into you then have the fact that a reading might be normal or appear so but a deeper health condition such as a chronic low level infection such as a Candida infection may be causing iron to not be properly utilized by the body.

#2 - Thyroid Problems: Hypothyroidism is a condition much more common in women than men. It involves a state of poor thyroid function where-by things don't quite work right. Cold hands, feet and an overall inability for the body to properly maintain temperature is commonly seen amongst other symptoms such as great difficulty in losing weight. It's ideal for most women to use an iodine supplement such as Iodoral when this is their most significant problem. In the meantime start eating high iodine containing foods such as seaweeds.

#3 - Poor Circulation: Put simply some people suffer from poor circulation the cause of which can be many things such as low blood pressure or weakened adrenal function. Many people who suffer from weak circulation often have low level infections in their bodies. A good solution to which is performing a good general cleanse and taking an anti-fungal and probiotic routinely to ensure your body isn't being weakened by anything. For general circulation the use of hawthorn and cayenne cannot be beat. Use organic raw powders, they're the most effective forms and in-expensive.

The #1 Underlying Cause for Poor Circulation

As mentioned low level infections can often wear you down and negatively affect circulation. This isn't only affected directly, but the chronic widespread infection known as Candida will cause thyroid dysfunction, poor circulation, weakened adrenals, block iron absorption amongst many other symptoms such as digestive problems, causing a mental fog and fatigue. If these symptoms sound familiar it would be in your best interest to determine quickly if Candida is a cause for your current health problems.
